Compatibility & Performance

Will Pulsar Plus work with my electric vehicle?

Yes. Pulsar Plus is compatible with all electric vehicles sold in North America, including Tesla, Ford, Rivian, Hyundai, Kia, GM, and more.

  • J1772 version: Works with all non-Tesla EVs and Tesla vehicles using an adapter (not included).

  • NACS version: Connects directly to Tesla vehicles, no adapter required.

If you switch EV brands in the future, your Pulsar Plus will continue to work as a level 2 EV car charger and J1772 level charger.

How fast can Pulsar Plus charge my car?

Pulsar Plus is a Level 2 EV charger delivering:

  • Up to 40 amps (9.6 kW)

  • Up to 48 amps (11.5 kW) on select models

That typically adds 30–40 miles of range per hour, depending on your vehicle and electrical setup.

Compared to a standard 120V outlet, Level 2 charging is up to 9x faster.

Is Pulsar Plus suitable for outdoor installation?

Yes. Pulsar Plus is rated NEMA Type 4, meaning it’s weather-resistant and built for reliable indoor or outdoor use in rain, snow, heat, and cold.

It operates in temperatures ranging from -22°F to 122°F (-30°C to 50°C), making it suitable for most U.S. climates year-round.

It also meets UL safety standards for long-term electrical protection making it a reliable home electric car charging station for indoor or outdoor installation.

Installation & Electrical Requirements

What electrical setup do I need at home?

Pulsar Plus requires a 240V (Level 2) circuit and can be installed in one of two ways:

It can be installed using:

  • Plug-in installation: Using a NEMA 14-50 outlet (40A only)

  • Hardwired installation: Direct connection for higher power output (48A only)

A licensed electrician can quickly confirm compatibility, most standard residential panels support 40A installations without major upgrades when installing a level 2 charger at home.

Do I need a professional electrician?

If you already have a NEMA 14-50 outlet, installation is typically plug-and-play.

For hardwired installations or higher amperage configurations, Wallbox recommends using a licensed electrician to ensure safety and code compliance for installing an EV charger at home.

Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel?

Not always.

If your home has an available 240V circuit rated at 40A or higher, upgrades are usually unnecessary.

For homes with limited capacity, adding a Wallbox Power Meter enables Dynamic Load Management, which balances charging with household energy use and may help avoid costly panel upgrades when you install a charging station at home.

How much does it cost to install a home EV charger?

An electric car charger installation typically ranges from $500–$2,000, depending on:

  • Panel capacity

  • Distance from the panel

  • Permit requirements

  • Plug-in vs. hardwired setup

Federal tax credits and local rebates may reduce total installation costs.

Smart Features & Energy Management

Can I manage charging with the Wallbox app?

Yes! The Wallbox app allows you to remotely:

  • Schedule charging during off-peak hours

  • Monitor energy usage

  • Adjust charging power

  • Lock or unlock your charger remotely

You can connect via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, depending on your setup. These features make Pulsar Plus a smart EV charger for everyday home use.

What happens if my Wi-Fi goes down?

Your electric car  will continue charging normally.

You can control the charger locally via Bluetooth, and once Wi-Fi is restored, charging data syncs automatically in the app.

This helps maintain a reliable smart charging experience even during connectivity interruptions.

What is Dynamic Load Management (DLM)?

Dynamic Load Management automatically adjusts charging speed based on your home’s real-time electricity usage.

When household demand increases, charging slows temporarily. When demand drops, charging returns to full speed.

Benefits include:

  • Prevents breaker trips

  • Protects your home’s electrical capacity

  • Helps avoid panel upgrades

Dynamic Load Management is a key feature in a modern smart EV charger setup and requires a Wallbox Power Meter.

What is Power Sharing?

Power Sharing allows multiple Wallbox chargers to operate on the same circuit by intelligently distributing available power.

Ideal for:

  • Homes with multiple EVs

  • Multi-family properties

  • Shared driveways or small fleets

The system balances power automatically to prevent overload, making it ideal for a dual EV charger setup at home or in shared properties

Can I charge my EV with solar energy?

Yes. With a Wallbox Power Meter, Pulsar Plus supports solar EV charging.

On your Wallbox app, you can choose between:

Full-Green Mode: Charges using 100% surplus solar energy when available.

Eco Mode: Blends solar and grid power in real time to maintain charging speed while minimizing grid use.

Solar charging helps reduce electricity costs and maximizes your solar investment!

Costs, Savings & Incentives

How much does it cost to charge an EV at home?

Over time, home charging can save thousands of dollars compared to gasoline, depending on driving habits and local electricity rates.

Charging costs depend on your electricity rate.

For example:
At $0.23 per kWh, a full 62 kWh charge costs about
$14.

On average, charging at home costs significantly less per mile than gasoline, especially when charging during off-peak hours or using solar energy.

Are there incentives or tax credits for installing a home EV charger?

Yes! Many homeowners qualify for federal, state, and utility incentives.

The federal Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Tax Credit may cover up to 30% of equipment and installation costs (eligibility requirements apply).

Additional programs may include:

  • State rebates

  • Utility bill credits

  • Special EV electricity rates

Incentives vary by location. Use our search tool to discover incentive programs available in your state or contact us for more information.

What are the benefits of installing a Level 2 EV charger at home?

A Level 2 EV charger offers:

  • Much faster charging than a standard outlet

  • Convenient overnight charging

  • Lower cost per mile compared to public charging

  • Eligibility for rebates and tax credits

  • Increased home value and future readiness

Home Level 2 charging makes EV ownership more convenient and cost-effective.
